Gemini Terminology

usage

Like most sophisticated products, Gemini has a unique structure, taxonomy and terminology where commonplace words like “item” can take on a whole new meaning. Gemini also has some words that don’t exist in any language, such as AppNav. This is a living list of some of the terms that are used in the product and their meaning. If there is some terminology that we use that is not obvious in meaning, please let us know and we will add to this list for the benefit of all users.

Activity   A screen in Gemini, similar to the timeline screen, that shows tasks that are overdue, tasks due today, tasks due tomorrow and items that have been opened or closed recently.
Affected Version   The field on a task that Gemini looks at to determine which Version the task is in on the Roadmap and Changelog screens.
Alerts   Email notifications from Gemini that can be generated for a variety or reasons
AppNav   Gemini's unique navigation, notification and collaboration system based on cards that record a shortcut to the functional area, execute dynamic filters and provide change notifications on screen and via email
AppNav zone   The region of the screen above the menu bar where AppNav cards are placed. The zone is scrollable so that if a lot of cards are placed in the area a scroll bar appears.
App Widget   A small piece of application code that can be added to Gemini or a 3rd patry application to integrate with Gemini (see also Plugin)
Atlas   Community knowledgebase and information repository. Integrated with Gemini so that Atlas users can respond to questions with items from Gemini.
Attachment   Data external to the Gemini system that can be 'attached' to a transaction. This is different from the document repository in Gemini, which is project and not item specific.
Attribute   A term used to apply to data elements of a project. Attributes are displayed in the left hand pane of the View Item page
Breeze   An application to provide email integration and SLAs. Breeze is tightly integrated with Gemini for email-to-ticket functionality. Also integrated with Outlook.
Changelog   A view of all tasks in a version/release/time-span that is closed e.g. Phase I tasks where Phase I is now complete (see also Roadmap).
Closed Item   An item in a status marked as Final. Please note, this is not necessarily the same as the word "Closed", which is just an arbitrary string of characters to a multi-language system like Gemini.
Component   A standard way of breaking projects down. For example, software projects might be broken into UI, Database etc. A marketing project might be broken into Channels.
Component Picker   A custom field that allows users to pick values from the Component field
Custom Field   A user defined field that does not exist in baseline Gemini. Gemini treats custom fields as first class items of the application and some Gemini templates themselves rely on Custom Fields.
Date Picker   A custom field that displays a calendar and allows the user to always select a valid date.
Dependencies   Tasks that are sub-tasks of other tasks. In the Grid view these are collapsed under the highest level parent task if "Group Dependencies" is selected.
Dropdown List   A selection that appears in a list. Gemini allows multi-select and single-select drop-down lists depending on the configuration of the project and/or the Custom Field.
Grid   The list view of tasks in Gemini.
History   A record of changes that are made to any task in Gemini. History creation is automatic and provides a comprehensive audit trail of all your tasks.
Item   The unit of tracking in Gemini. Because of Gemini's incredible flexibility, items can represent Issues, Bugs, Initiatives, Stories (Agile) and many, many other things.
Item Key   The hyperlink to any specific Item in the system.
Links   Relationships between one or more tasks in Gemini. Gemini allows you to specify reason codes for the linkage, such as duplicate or causal relationships.
Meta Filters   Filters based on abstratc terms, such as "yesterday", "late" and "overdue"
Multi Select List   See drop-down list - a multi-select list is just a variant of this.
Notifications   Emails.
Planner   The visual planning board
Planner Cards   A modifiable view of selected elements of a task on an card-shaped surface, such that the task can be dragged and dropped to change its data values.
Plugin
Priority   Out-of-the-box field in Gemini to track importance of tasks
Project Defaults   The values that will be placed on fields on any task that is created in the project if the user does not supply a value.
Project Template   A container of all the data that is used to determine the structure of a project - its statuses, menu, processes it tracks etc. Project Templates are a key differentiator for Gemini
Resolution   Out-of-the box, Project Template specific code that can be used to further clarify a status. An item may be in a status of "Closed" with a resolution of "Cannot Reproduce".
Resource files   Files that hold metadata that can be changed by technical support staff. Files that hold language translations for example.
Resource/Resources   People who are defined in the Permissions as being able to have tasks assigned to them.
Response Template   An email template to be used by Gemini when sending out emails. Gemini 'understands' meta fields like {recipient} in these templates
Roadmap   A view of all tasks in a version/release/time-span that is still open e.g. Phase I tasks where Phase I is still in progress (see also Changelog).
Sequencing   Manual ordering of tasks in the Grid by dragging the tasks, using the drag-handles into the Sequence Zone (see The Grid).
Severity   Out-of-the-box field in Gemini to track impact of tasks upon one or more stakeholders.
Sharing   The process of designating users in a user group to receive an App Nav Card from another user.
Status   Out-of-the-box field in Gemini. Status is an essential element of Workflow, which defines the transition of tasks from one status to another.
Stream   The Gemini background scheduler
Subscribe   To specify that you wish to receive an email when some activity in the system changes the data in the scope of an App Nav Card (see App Navg Cards).
Time Type   A user-defined category of time e.g. "Billable", "Non-Billable", "Internal" etc. Time Types are Project Template specific.
Timeline   A Gemini page that lets you see New, Updated and Commented upon tasks for any time period.
Title   The short description field for a task in Gemini. The long description (rich text) is called "Description"
User Picker   A custom field to allow users to select other users from a list. The User Picker is security controlled so users will only see users in groups to which they have access.
Version   A hierarchical (if required) field in Gemini by which work can be grouped e.g. "Phase1", "Sprint 1.0", "Q1/2012" etc.
Version Picker   A Custom Field that selects from a drop-down list of Versions
Watchers   People who will receive an email notification when an item is changed.
Widget   See plugin.
Workflow   Rules to define the transition of tasks from one status to another. From what to what can a task flow and who can determine that transition.
