Getting Started

install
usage

This quick guide will introduce the key concepts and features within Gemini. Use it to get a feel of how Gemini works and can help your teams to deliver better projects.

You should use the sample database that was installed during the Gemini installation process. Default login username is "manager" with a password of "manager".

First Look

Projects within Gemini are organized under categories allowing you to group related projects together. Three ways to organize:

  • Departmental
  • Line of Business / Business Unit
  • Clients

Each Project Dashboard provides a quick way for you to see the state of play within your project. What is going on? Who's working on what?

The project Roadmap provides a forward-looking view of what's coming up:

The project Changelog provides a historic view of the project's accomplishments:

Take some time to look around the other tabs within the project.

Configuring Email Notifications

First setup your SMTP server details so that Gemini can send email notifications:

image

Now select a project and choose which email notifications you wish to receive:

Your First Issue

Hover over the New Item link and log a Bug or some other type of item:

image

Notice what happens when you change the Type dropdown between Bug and Task. The screen changes to reflect the input fields we need to fill in for that type:

Gemini allows you to define different screens for different types of work items.

Finding Things That Matter

Click on the Items tab within a project and say hello to where you will spend most of your time in Gemini!

image

Now, click on the Components filter option and CTRL-select multiple items. Clicking View will mean Gemini retrieves only items that match your criteria. Go ahead and play around with the Filter to see how easy it is to find items by the various filter options:

image

Now lets bring items from all projects under the Development category. Just select the category and click filter:

image

Now go back to the Component filter option and notice how you now have filter options from BOTH projects under the Development category. This is how Gemini allows you bring together from differently structured projects.

Editing Items

Let's stay on Items tab and see how easy it is to update any item in the grid view. Just point-and-click to change any value on the grid including any custom fields that you may have defined:

image

But note that not all values can be changed. Why? Because Gemini allows you to control who can change which value and when.

Try to find a specific item by typing "48" into the Search box located right at the top of Gemini. It should take you right to the Item view:

image

Once again, note how all the item attributes on the left of the screen are point-click-update savvy.

Take a good look around to see how Gemini displays an Item - just note that everything you see on-screen can eb controlled to show/hide based on user permissions, group membership. The view also adapts depending upon the type of item you are viewing: different layouts for different types of work items.

Visual Planning

Head back to the Items tab within your project and click on Planner. Now drag and drop to move things around for real-time editing of items.

image

Each Card on the Planner represents an item - use the slider to adjust progress and hover over the dropdown menu on the Card to explore available actions. Use the Filter to control the items displayed and try changing what each axis represents!

Capture Your Data

Let's add our own dropdown field. Head over to Administration (top left) and click on Custom Fields under the Projects section. Add a custom field of type dropdown and use a static list to hold client names:

image

Note how you can select can choose which projects can use this custom field.

Now that we have a custom field, let's put it into use via Screens. Click on Screens (under Items section) within Administration and edit the Edit Screen to include our newly defined custom field.

image

Do you see how Gemini allows you to select who sees which input field and when? Now do the same thing for the View Screen - include the Clients custom field.

Now lets navigate to item # 89 by typing "89" into the search box right at the top of Gemini - it should now display the item in question.
