AppNav Cards

usage

One of the most powerful features of Gemini, AppNav Cards define a scope of data and a view of that data, for example Resources working on a particular Version (scope) in the Planner (view). Any data in any view can be shared, because AppNav cards can be shared. To facilitate sharing, AppNav cards can be renamed from their defaults (name of the functional menu) and personalized e.g. “Andy’s Tasks”. If you are not logged into Gemini but wish to receive notifications then you can ‘Subscribe’ to an AppNav card for emails when items in its scope are created, updated or commented upon. Finally, you can order AppNav cards and when you log into Gemini you will always log into the view represented by the leftmost personal AppNav card on the screen. Gemini allows you to define system-wide AppNav cards to be shown to unauthenticated and/or authenticated users but these do not have any effect on login navigation.

Creating an AppNav Card

To create an AppNav card, you ‘pin’ the page you are viewing. This is done either by clicking on the Pin icon , which is found on the right hand side of the Blue Bar region of the screen, or by clicking on the Blue Bar region, holding the mouse down, and dragging the card out of the bar. This action can be seen by clicking on Help in your Gemini application and selecting “Pinning important things” in the Navigating section.

Click on Pin (marked by red box) to create an AppNav Card for the page you are viewing. If the page is already pinned then this icon will be greyed.

If any filters have been applied to the page then they will be stored against the AppNav card and re-run whenever the card is clicked on. The filter is dynamic so that if the information within the scope of the filter changes then the AppNav card view will reflect that change. For example if a card relates to Unassigned work and lists 5 items, if one of those items is Assigned then the next time the AppNav card is clicked only 4 items will be shown, so the card is not a static snapshot it is a dynamic representation.

Navigation

AppNav Cards store the menu location and any filters you apply to a page. To return to the page marked by the AppNav card simply click on it. If you are on the Gemini Grid page you will also see sequenced items provided they fall within the AppNav card’s project filter (because sequenced items for a project are always shown).

AppNav cards can be ordered in the AppNav zone and you will always log into the leftmost personal (not system) AppNav card’s view.

Naming

Right-click on an AppNav card and you will be prompted with a drop-down menu, one of the options of which is “Rename”. Select this option and you can type in your own name for the AppNav card. The name is stored when you press return (CR).

Sharing

Gemini’s AppNav cards are a unique way of sharing information with people you need to collaborate with. right click on a card and select “Share”. You will be prompted with a checklist of all the Interaction Groups that members of your Group are allowed to share cards with. Select one or more Groups and click “Share”. Members of the Group you are sharing with will receive the AppNav card the next time their screen refreshes or when they log in. Shared AppNav cards will always appear as the top leftmost cards in the receiver’s AppNav zone, this is to make sure that such cards are not missed should the receiver have a number of cards already. To further distinguish AppNav cards from other users, they are styled slightly differently (default is italicized text).

If an AppNav card is shared, changes to the card by any recipient of the card will affect the cards belonging to all other holders of the card. For example, if an AppNav Card of a Visual Planning board shows cards grouped by “Resource” but one of the recipients of the card changes the view to show the same information grouped-by “Status” then the next time any holders of the card click on the card their view will change to reflect the new group-by field.

Badge Notifications

When you have an AppNav card, whether you create it yourself or it is one that is shared with you, if any data changes within its scope then the card will start to show badge notifications. These notifications, which appear in the coloured strip on the left hand side of the card, keep a count of the number of changes up to 5, thereafter the badge count will simply show 5+. You will not receive any notifications in your AppNav cards for changes that you make, these notifications are to let you know what has changed that you are not aware of, not a reminder of things that you have done in the system.

To see the changes that the notifications refer to, simply hover over the badge with your cursor and Gemini will show a clickable list of changes. Click on any item in the list and view its history to see what was changed. These badge count notifications will remain with the card indefinitely until you click on the “Clear” link on the drop-down list, at which time all the items in the list will be cleared.

Subscribing

Changes can happen while you are not logged into Gemini. If you would like to receive notifications by email if any data comes into or out of the scope of your AppNav card(s) or any of the tasks its covers are commented upon, you can subscribe to the card to receive emails if items are Created (come into scope), Updated, or Commented upon. Gemini will send notification emails singly or batched depending upon the preferences in your customization settings for email.

Removing

With the exception of certain System AppNav cards, you can delete any AppNav card that you create or that is shared with you. To do so, simply right-click on the card and select “Remove”. If you delete a shared card this action will have no effect on any other holders of that card, regardless of whether or not you are the card creator.
