Sorting by Issue ID

web-app

On the live Gemini 2.2 site, the results of sorting the issues by Issue (ID) ascending show GEM-1375 ahead of GEM-138:

http://gemini.countersoft.com/Issues.aspx?sort=IssueKey&pdir=Descending&PROJID=-2

Since the IDs consist of the alpha prefix and numeric part, which is a generated number, the sorting by the ID should probably be a bit tricky:

- by the prefix (project) first,

- within the project, by the right-adjusted generated numbers.

Thanks.

If you click on Customise at the bottom of the issues list, you can select Issue ID as a field to display. Then click on Issue ID field and it will sort.

From http://gemini.countersoft.com/Main.aspx I'm going to "All projects issue reporting". Issue ID column is diasplayed in the list. I'm clicking on the "Issue" heading to sort by the ID. On page 2, I can see the sequence: GEM-1148, GEM-1149, GEM-115, GEM-1157,... It looks to me as sorting of the left-justified alpha-numeric values.

Thanks.

This column is the issue key not id. To sort by id log in and cusomise the grid to show the id only.

Thanks !

I haven't noticed until now that the column's heading changed from "ID" in 2.0.5 - where the original observation about the sorting was made - to "Issue" in 2.2.1.

I'm getting back to this because I can see now that what I actually would like to see in the "All projects issue reporting" is ordering of the issues by the projects, i.e., Issue prefixes, then, within the groups, sorting by the ID. Issue keys consist of the two parts, which essentially may be the two sort keys.

Not sure if it's achievable now... The workaround might be a requirement to have all projects prefixes of the same length (let's say 3 or 4 chars).

Thanks.

Makes sense. We can add a feature that will sort it by project code and then issue id (via the issue key column). Please add it to our list: http://gemini.countersoft.com
