Concerns Regarding GEM-936

web-app

Greetings,

I was reading through the release notes for 2.2 and noticed the response from Saar Cohen for GEM-936 (http://gemini.countersoft.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=936&PROJID=2):

Such users shoud not receive project alerts, they should watch the issues they are interested in.

Now perhaps I am misinterpreting the initial request, but I think that this type of functionality is vital to software development projects.  Here is my interpretation: The existing email alerts do not allow a User to receive an alert ONLY when they are assigned an issue, but it should.  Asking Users to 'watch' issues is unrealistic...how do they know which issues to watch unless they know when they're assigned an issue?

I for one have been waiting, and waiting, for this functionality only to find out that you have no intention of doing it.  Not good.  Hopefully you will reconsider.

I see your point now. It is possible right now (as of 1.9.1) by changing the auto alert for issue resource.

You can do it in version 2.1.1 or 2.2  via the administration -> notifications and set the "Email Issue Resource" to YES.

I understand that I can receive an email alert whenever an issue is assigned to ANY resource, but I only want to receive an alert when I am assigned to an issue.

I am running v2.0.5 of Gemini and when I configure my Project Email Alerts by selecting 'Receive alert whan resource ASSIGNED to issue', I get emails every time an issue is assigned to ANY resource.  This is not acceptable.  There should be a suitable alert for just the individual as well.

No, this option sends the alert only to the issue resource. In 2.0.5 it is a web.config setting.

Ok.  I didn't know that setting existed.  My apologies.  One question, however:  Is the 'watch' removed when a resource is no longer assigned to the issue or is that a manual process?

UPDATE:  Which setting is it that configures this?  I can't seem to find it in the User Guide.

UPDATE 2:  I found it...AutoAlertForIssueResource = YES.

The watch will not be removed if the resource is no longer assigned.

Don't you think that would make a very useful feature?

possibly, but not always, eg i pass the issue onto another user, who needs to work on it. I would want to know how it was progressing, whether it had been bounced on to a 3rd person etc etc. In that case, i would still want to be an issue watcher and having it remove it automatically would be anoying, I can always remove it myself if desired.

Or it could be an option, when resource is changed (and the watch was automatically added) then prompt user to remove the watch. (if they manually set it then it should not be prompted to be removed)

I agree.  I like the idea of having the option, however, instead of the software dictating how I run my shop.

Marc,

Add it as enhancement request (http://gemini.countersoft.com) and we will provide such an option for 2.3 release.

Cheers.
