Subprojects?

web-app

Hi

I'm looking at Gemini having used Mantis for many years.

One of the things I can't work out how to do is have sub-projects.

I can see Project Groups - so I guess that is one level of sub-projects.

I can see Components in a project but the version numbering seems to be done on a "per project" basis rather than per component.

I want to have three groups - software/hardware/production. Within each group I want to have top level projects for each area (cars, trucks, buses) then sub-projects for each product (engine, gearbox) then perhaps subprojects for each piece of software in the product (ECU, ECU tuning, ECU manufacturing tests, etc).

Is it possible?

peter

Peter,

Components in Gemini can be use as "sub-projects".

But I think the issue you are facing is that you need versioning to be specified at the COMPONENT level (and not the PROJECT level).

Is this correct? If so, Gemini does not support such a level for versions

I guess in the Gemini context I need versions at the component level since components have the hierarchy of levels that I need (ie components can have components which can have components).

Is there any plan to add either sub projects or versions on components? I love what I have seen so far but we have 90+ pieces of software plus hardware plus products for manufacturing so I think it would get a bit messy.

Or is there a another way? We make electronics - each piece of hardware may have 1-3 pieces of embedded firmware plus 1-7 related PC programs, each with its own version number. We have a large number of products so the overall number of projects is very high! The current number of projects that need their own version number is over 100.

regards
Peter

Unfortunately, we don't plan to do this in the near future.
We do have it on our list: http://gemini.countersoft.com/Default.aspx?p=2&i=314 and http://gemini.countersoft.com/Default.aspx?p=2&i=2983

The only suggestion we can have is to group (label) the projects more generically.
