Problems with Custom Fields

We have a custom field that used a textbox list. However, we are unable to make this a required field. why is this the case?

The alternative would be for us to use a dropdown list. However, their is not an option to add a "select one" option and force uses to make a choice. Instead, users will more than likely pick the first value (since it defaults there) and this is not what's desired.

Is there any way around either of these issues?

A custom text box can be set as a required field (Gemini > Administration > Custom Fields).

'Select One' is currently not an option for drop down list. You do have the option to select a default value for a drop down list from Gemini > Administration > Custom Fields. This setting will be applied cross projects.

Optionally, you can set a custom default value for drop down list from Project Administration > Default Values.
