Email Notifications not sending
Hi,
I am experiencing some problems with the email notifications. I have looked all over the place and have not been able to find a solution to my problem. We are running gemini v2.2.1. I am not really sure what happened but as of Friday night, I have not recieved a notification of updates of issues, new issue notifications. I did set my boss as a watcher on one ticket today and he did recieve the notification that he was watcher. I checked the issue alerts table and there were 48 records in there. I read somewhere that someone deleted all records from the issue alerts table and this fixed thier problem. I tried that, and now the table is queueing up again, but the notifications are still not sending. I did a little more research on our server, looking at the logs. I found the following error which seems to correspond with when the notifications stopped working:
System.Web.Services - The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. - at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.ReadResponse(SoapClientMessage message, WebResponse response, Stream responseStream, Boolean asyncCall)
at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters)
at MetaDataServices.GetGeminiConfiguration()
at CounterSoft.Gemini.Scheduler.EmailAlertsProcess.Process()
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
A few more items of information that may be related:
- Just before the notifications stopped sending, I was upgrading our mail server software, mailenable, from 3.11 to 3.14.
- This is not the first time we have had this problem. In the past clearing out the issuealerts table did the trick (Sometimes for our comments we will copy and paste contents from emails to the comments, and I read that sometimes could cause this problem)
If anyone could give me some suggestions on this or give me some advice on how to debug this further, I would greatly appreciate it. I am to the point now that I have nothing left to try.
Thanks in advance

Seems like the web services are not working! Can you try navigating to the web service on your site: |

That did take me to the webservice definition page (forgive me if that is not the correct terminology). But I do see the page that tells me what functions are published by the webservice. Is the issue alerts method in a webservice also? I did not see any webmethods in that one that one that had anything to do with alerts. |

Ok, did you change the welcome message in your settings? It might be that you have a suprious character in there. |

I checked the welcome message. No extra characters in the welcome message. |

Is it possible to send us a zipped backup of your database? If so please email to support@countersoft.com

I detached the database, compressed it. but the problem is it is about 700mb. We have been using gemini for a while now, several years. You want me to try to email it, or maybe i can ftp it up to you or something. |

Ok, I went through the steps of shrinking the database, as you described and attempted to email it to you. it was about 45 mb large still, so no suprise it still failed. |

We had this issue resolved, but now it is occuring again. I know how to fix it (restarting the service seems to work just fine) but we are wondering if there is a permanent fix? Maybe there is a newer version of the Service or something. Thanks in advance. |

Do you get any errors in the windows event log? |

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. It happened again today. Again the restarting of the Countersoft Gemini Scheduler service fixed it. But again, we are wondering if there is a way to avoid having to periodically restart the service, as it puts a day behind in email notications (usually takes us a day to realize it is not working). So, I checked the event viewer, the only countersoft errors I noticed were ones caused when we had to reset IIS today. The only thing I see that seems out of place is I did notice the service seems to be firing 5 times (then waiting 5 minutes) then firing 5 times again (I am basing this on the Information log entries in the Event Viewer->Application log. Is this normal? |

We are in the process of fixing this, it should be ready by mid June. |

Hi guys i'm new to gemini, installed everything (with license), got the same errors (about 1000 times per minute!!) System.Web.Services - The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. - at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.ReadResponse(SoapClientMessage message, WebResponse response, Stream responseStream, Boolean asyncCall) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters) at MetaDataServices.GetGeminiConfiguration() at CounterSoft.Gemini.Scheduler.EmailAlertsProcess.Process() Weitere Informationen über die Hilfe- und Supportdienste erhalten Sie unter http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Gemini Version 3.0.4.2026 Database is completly new (only admin user, no project etc.) Is there something i could test in detail?

When do you get this error? Are you using the scheduler service? Please check that Microsoft WSE 3.0 is installed on the web server. |

Hi MarkWing MS WSE 3.0 is installed, I noticed "Windows Server 2003 SP2" is missing, I'll install this now and then we will see. Is there a possibility to test webservices in detail or do you expect the problem in the scheduler itself? Both, iis and scheduler are on the same machine (windows 2003 server, german), smtp is running. I had problems already when changing "default-culture-name" to "ch-DE", scheduler does not start anymore, only with "en-GB" it's starting. (Missing templates perhaps?) thx for further assistance [:)] |

We will investigate the default culture issue. Can you please check if you can navigate via a browser to the web services? ie. http://server/gemini/webservices/issuesws.asmx Does it work? |

The web services are OK, the list is accessible. At the moment scheduler is working fine for 12 hours . I'll keep an eye on it and would repost in case further issues.

Hi guys, This is still happening occasionally. Atleast I now know to restart the Countersoft Service and that ALWAYS fixes it for me. Was an update ever released to fix this? I think last time I checked you guys said you were shooting for an update in Mid June. Just checking. Would love to apply the update if it has been released. Thanks |
