Can't login to desktop: Invalid web service access code

desktop
add-ons

Trying to login for the first time to the desktop version and getting:

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request.
--- > System.ApplicationException: Invalid web services access code at Gemini.AuthWS.LogIn(...)

I have read through existing threads and all of the following is true:

  • WSE2.0 sp3 installed and rebooted server, verified correct version in GAC
  • WSE version in web.config updated to 2.0.3.0 in both places
  • Verified that the full url in web.config matches what I'm using
  • Verified that the "winauth" value in the desktop .config matches the web and windows access codes in web.config (this is unclear -- I'm using the desktop app, but getting a web service access code error instead of windows access code error?  Not sure which is which so I set them both the same).
  • I can log in just fine to: http://myurl/gemini/webservices/AuthWS.asmx
  • I've been using the web version installed on the server for a while with no issues
I'm not sure what access code value is actually being passed or where it's coming from, but the one in app.config matches what's in web.config.  Is there somewhere else that I'm not seeing that needs to be updated?

Thanks,
Brian

BTW -- I also run community server on a site of mine, and they added an admin setting for the forums in the newest version where you can default the forums to show all posts by default instead of the current default of only the past 2 months' worth.  I find that setting to be quite annoying as a new user of a forum, because it looks pretty empty by default and you have to know to open the options link at the bottom of each forum page and toggle the filter manually to show all posts (and even then, it only keeps it temporarily).  I would advise changing that default if you can for the benefit of people new to your forum!

Which version of Gemini (web app) are you running?

Looks like just 2.0.  I guess I need to upgrade?

The desktop app can run with version 2.0.3 or higher.
