Time Tracker has .Net RUntime 2.0 Error after installation

desktop
add-ons

I have just downloaded and installed the Gemini TimeTracker using the file CounterSoftGeminiTimeTrackerv11_2.exe

It installs with no obvious errors but fails to run.

Running from the menu or shortcuts also fail to do anything.

The event log of my machine reports the following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date:  08/04/2009
Time:  11:55:52
User:  N/A
Computer: XXXXX
Description:
Faulting application countersoft.gemini.timetracker.exe, version 1.1.2.2235, stamp 00000015, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, stamp 4802a12c, debug? 0, fault address 0x00012aeb.

I have uninstalled, retrieved a new copy from your server, and rerun the install but it has not corrected the problem. :-(

I am running XP Pro, VS2008 and Gemini 3.1.2 on my Windows 2K3 server.

All the other add-ins and utilities work just fine.

Any suggestions?

Please try launching Gemini Time Tracker from- c:/program files/countersoft/Gemini Time Tracker/CounterSoft.Gemini.TimeTracker.exe

You can also try by restarting IIS on your local machine. (From Visual Studio command prompt run aspnet_regiis /i)

No luck there.

I did a reinstall which appeared to do an uninstall, and so I attempted a reinstall which proceeded to confuse my machine totally and cause it to freeze. Had to do an emergency power down and on again. Probably a result of all the attempts prior . No bad thing to reboot anyway.

So I had a clean boot, checked that TT was not installed anywhere, did a fresh install, all appeared ok but TT did not run on completion of process.

I went to the new directory where the exe was and attempted to run it, got the same Debug- Send Error Report - Don't Send dialog box. My event log is giving the same logged error as before.

So no joy yet.

The exe reports as 5.35MB (5,610,929 bytes) with assembly/file version 1.1.2.2235

Is this correct?

I am running some corporate antivirus software, name of Sophos (but I have admin rights on my box.)Is this likely to be getting in the way?

This appears to be a machine specific issue. Can you try installing on a different machine?

Ok, will try to get a colleague to install it tomorrow.

Ok, a colleague has installed it on his machine with the same result. But then his box is configured the same as mine.  I downloaded another copy of the install exe using a separate machine altogether and tried again but no go.

However, I then went to our server where Gemini web site is installed (W2k3 and IIS6) and tried there and it all went perfectly!  The tracker bar came up and we could connect to the web service. So that means that the download exe is ok which eliminates one possibility.

But it is really not very helpful to have the time tracker running on the server, I need it on the workstation, that is what it is designed for , isn't it?

I have checked with our IT network police and they assure me that our anti-virus software would not prevent any changes to the registry, not sure if I believe it but ......

So, I am running a standard development workstation running Windows XP Pro SP3, 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM. I have admin rights on my box. I have .Net 3.5 installed (am building web site based on 3.5 and Ajax) and because of this we don't use IIS on local box, have to run Cassini

What can I check or log that would help you diagnose this problem? I have 5 people who would benefit from using this little tool.

Which Gemini add-ons are running successfully on your machine?

Please run DebugView http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647.aspx and email us the output at supportatcountersoftdotcom.

The add-ins I am running successfully are the Visual Studio 2008 Add-in, and the Gemini - Snagit Integration tool. After a couple of tries these work just fine.

I have tried running DebugView but it only logs the mouse moves into and out of a window. When I run TT nothing shows in the debugview window, and I have ticked all the boxes for Capture. Perhaps TT does not produce any debug output?

The error dialog for the report to send to Microsoft reports quite a bit of memory information but so far I cant find a way of saving it locally.

I have just checked the registry and see that there are entries there for TT.

Default
GeminiURL
GeminiUserName
Languages
Otherurls
Userlanguage

They appear to have the default values which I remember from when I setup the VS add-in.

When comparing with the VS2008AddIn registry entries, that folder has a few more items.

Is this significant?

AJM,

We can setup a GotoMeeting and have a look at the issue on your machine?  If this is an acceptable option please send email to Support.

Many thanks for the successful support work.

The GotoMeeting worked very well and was very easy to setup and use (remoting software has come soooo far).

The fixed installation files have been received and installed sucessfully and now I am a happy Gemini user once more.[Y]
