Relation between SMTP settings and Scheduler Service

Hi,

   Is there any relationship between Administration->SMTP Settings and Scheduler Service.

As far as I know, the Scheduler service will download the email specified in the POPUsername in MailboxProcessor tag, in the scheduler-config file. And my doubt is,

a) what is the purpose of the email-id specified in the SMTP settings?

b) How is the email id specified in the SMTP settings will be useful?

c) If I'm using Scheduler service, then, does the email-id specified in the SMTP-settings has any role? I mean can i use SMTP-settings and Scheduler-service together. Or only one service can be activated at a time?

I hope I confused you a little bit, all because I just started using Gemini.
Please clear my doubt.

The scheduler service can do 2 tasks.

  1. POP emails and create issue in Gemini. That is what the mailbox processor section of the config file is for.
  2. Send email alerts for issue activity (created, updated etc..) to Gemini users. it uses the SMTP settings for this and the "From email address" is used in these emails.
