Separation of the 'estimate' from 'actual time' and 'to go'

The approach to tracking 'time left' by subtracting the estimate from the actual logged time does not allow for easy tracking of issue (and ultimately version and project) variance.

I found reference to the work-around of changing the estimate in the issue "GEM-1076 - Show and allow edits to Work Estimate during Log Time Entry". The solution it suggests makes the work-around easier, but doesn't solve the underlying problem.

What I would like to see is fields for:

  • Estimate (set at the start)
  • Actuals (from time tracking)
  • To go (updated as time is tracked ... could have a calculated starting point)
  • Variance (calculated by 'Actuals' + 'To go' - 'Estimate')

I am interrested in finding out how other Gemini users have worked around this issue.
