search and issue linking

web-app
  1. Most of our issues have product model descriptions that are in the format ABC-123. When I search for a phrase like this it seems to only want to match to issue identifiers, it wont find anything with this phrase in the issue title or description.
  2. We have projects that have shared modules. If i create an issue in one project I would like to easily add it to another as a link. Can this be done?

Just to clarify on second point: What I would like is to create a duplicate of an issue into another project and linked back to the original. Then then have any updates made on the original be reflected in the duplicate, so I don't have to maintain two separate issues.

Where exactly are you doing the search? The find box (top of the page) will go to an issue first.
You can do the search via the keywords box of the filter page.

As for linking issues, unfortunately it will not update the duplicate issue as they are still 2 seperate issues.

Feel free to add it to our list: http://gemini.countersoft.com

I have another problem with searching:

I am very confused as to the rules of your search. I do not seem to get a full result set when I type certain searches... as opposed to document every type of search I have ever done, I will give a couple examples:

I have an issue that has a summary of "Test Task #1". Search A: I search for "Test Task 1" and get nothing. Search B: I search for "1" and my issue comes up as part of a big list (note that "1" does not appear in any bug description or comments and it is not the number of the issue). Now, it seems to me that if Search B can return an issue where part of a word matches... that search A should do the same... Furthermore... not being able to return when part of a word matches is a huge problem as we don't remember the exact phrasing of the summary which is why we are searching in the first place!

Now, the second problem that I have with searching is where the search seems to assume that I am looking for an exact phrase vs. two words that appear in the comments, summary, description, etc... I searched for the term "generated reports" (put in the keyword box without the quotes) and nothing came up even though I have a bug that includes the phrase "generated enough reports". Is there a way to remove implied quotes so that the search looks at individual words as opposed to exact phrases. Similarly... I don't remember the exact phrase I used... if I did, I probably wouldn't need the search.

Lastly, we are using v3.6.3 Build 2590. Please let me know if this has been addressed in newer versions.

thanks for any help!

Sure, simply put % instead of space, so in your case: generated%reports

I just tried that and I find that my results are different if I try generated%reports vs. reports%generated. Similarly, I do not know the order the words will appear, I just think that those are words that should give me the result set I want...

The more words I would like to use as qualifiers... the worse the problem of ordering the search will be. Is there any way to just find all issues where every word that I put in the keyword box are present?

OK, will do. For my knowledge in the short term, are there more search terms/wildcards that I can use other than just th "%"? Do you have a list?

thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, it is only the "%" that can be used at the moment.
