Unfortunately, at the moment you can only set it by user (not group) you need to be a project administrator and then you'll be able to pick other users.

Hello, thanks for that but I am already a project administrator. My problem is I can't locate the screen where the groups appear in a drop down list as per the document.

If I log in and click project administration for one of my projects I see the "edit project properties" screen. Abvoe and to the rightI see the "email alerts" function but when I click it I only see the alerts for my user. I can type alternative user names and set their alerts, but I want to set the defaults for a global group - which is what the image in the document appears to show.
