Selected Comment Visibility

web-app

We just migrated from Gemini 2.0 to 3.5.2.

In the earlier version, issue workers could add comments and mark them 'Private' so that Issue Creators and External Viewers would not see them.  An issue could contain a mixture of visible and private comments.  Only issue workers could see everything.

Q1:  In migrating to the new version, especially with new project groups and schemes, how were those private comments mapped over, or were they?

Q2:  Moving forward, can individual comments still be marked private?  If so, how?

These are migrated and assigned a global group by the step 2 migration script. However, we strongly recommend not to run this script and re-do security as per the migration guide: http://www.countersoft.com/downloads/v35/docs/GeminiMigrationGuide.pdf

Users can now mark comments so they can be viewed by a specific global or project user group. This is better then setting private / public.

The answer to my first question is still unclear to me.  If we did not run the step 2 migration script, what happened to the private comments for existing issues after they migrated to the 3.5.2 database?

The visibility for those comments was set to the highest global group id.

Thank you SaarCohen.  I appreciate your timely responses.

What does Gemini consider to be the 'highest' global group?

On the Security Settings -> Global Groups screen, I see a group named Everyone with Issue Visibility across everything in the database.  Is that the highest group and can everyone now see all Private comments?

If the visibility of those comment is everyone then everyone can see these.

Again, the migration of the security settings is not recommended.
