Suggestions for using saved filters

web-app

I'm finding Gemini's implementation of saved filters extremely frustrating. Between Gem's unpredictable use of session data to control searches and search parameters, the inability to always include all of any item (e.g., components - see here), the lack of clarity when it comes to creating and editing filters and the project scope that will be applied, and the inability to run *any* filter from *any* page (see here) - I just keep finding myself pounding my fists on my desk as I try to get these things working for me.

Is anyone out there making extensive use of saved filters, especially ones that are not project-specific, who wouldn't mind posting some tips on how to work around Gem's quirks to more easily create and manage them? I know I'd appreciate such tips, and others probably would, too.

Thanks!

I agree with you regarding the "all projects" saved filter. But can you confirm that you are having an issue with all components as well? That should not be the case.

We had similar issues: 1- selecting filters from the left side panel was not intuitive. Once the select filters 'box' opened and you selected multiple filters, it was not intuitive from there to either click the top right side 'x' or click away from the box. This feature is almost never used as people don't know what to do - and nobody reads the manual.

2- When filters are saved by the few people who know how to use them, then they have to search for the filter label. Previous to 3.6 the filter was easily found. Now apparently it goes under the mega menu for 'all issues' in the project it was created in. The user ends up clicking the 'x' and check mark before finding the 'all issues -> saved filter'. That is another thing that is not intuitive that check and x next to the saved filter name at the bottom will save or delete it, the reason its not intuitive is its always visible, maybe if there were an edit button then you get those options.

So what we did to work around the above: 1- requested that you can share or publish saved filters with everyone - GEM-1611 . This only covers the problem that filters are not intuitive if you have never used gemini.

2- make your own global filters.
- Create a filter, save the filter, then go to all issues -> select your recently saved filter.

  • Copy the url for the saved filter, this should have a url variable of filter= at the end. This url is global - any user can access.

  • go to a project home page and make a project attribute, name attribute "Issue Filters" and for the value type in some text in the editor such as MY Filter then apply the previously copied link to the text. Save.

The above will now make a global filter that anyone can click on to see.

This is not a rant for gemini, we really enjoy using the product. Support is excellent and they listen to customer feedback.

Sorry, you're right: components seem to be fine.
