Default value on screen of a custom field

I created a dropdown listbox custom field control. I am setting the default value on screen for the field as "N/A". but it is not displayed after i click the create issue link for the project. Please help. Thanks in advance.

When setting the default value did you use the key value?

List custom fields need a key and description values with the key being used to store data and value to display.
