new issue statuses not selectable in new issues

I have added some issue statuses to the default workflow. I made sure the default workflow applies to all projects. I create a new issue in one of the projects. My new issue status does not appear in the status field. What am I doing wrong?

I also created a new workflow and assigned it to a project, but then the statuses are not selectable at all.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Did you add transitions to this status from other statuses?
