Socket connection was aborted

Email Alert Engine: MailPlugin

I am unable to get automatic email alerts to work.  The following error appears in the system log:

"Socket connection was aborted by remote host."

at b2.a(dg A0) at b2.ah() at az.a(String A0, Int32 A1, Boolean A2, EndPoint A3) at az.y() at ei.y() at et.y() at bs.a5() at ev.b(Boolean A0) at MailBee.SmtpMail.Smtp.Connect() at CounterSoft.Gemini.Mail.Emailer.SendEmail(GeminiConfigurationEN config, EmailAlert alertMessage, IssueWatcherEN recipient) at CounterSoft.Gemini.Business.Alerts.MailPlugin.SendMail(String subject, ArrayList emailList, String body, Boolean bHTML)

Oddly enough, the Test button works fine and sends me an email when I click it.  The target SMTP server is used by other applications to send mail. 

Any thoughts as to what may be causing the problem?

Does this error occur for every alert sent?

Bizarre.  As of this morning I no longer see the error message, however it is still not sending emails.  The Test button still works... I tried it with two different SMTP servers, both sent me a test email.

Any thoughts?

Can you please check your mail sweeper / spam as sometimes these stop these from coming in.

It magically started working.  As far as i can tell i did not change anything.  Not sure what the issue was/is.  Hopefully it is not an intermittent problem.
