How to send Email Alerts to only those connected with the issue

web-app

From the bit of experimenting I've done, it would seem that you can only control what type of issue change notification you get in an email at the project level.  i.e. - you can select "Receive alert when issue is UPDATED" in your email alerts settings but you are then sent an email notification for any issue that is updated across the entire project - not just those that you a) are assigned to or b) created.  We've got a team of 20+ people working on a project and the majority of them only need to be aware of changes in certain issues, not everything that happens to every issue.  is there a way to configure the system so you're only notified about issues that are assigned to you or that your created?  I had thought the system already worked this way - and hopefully this is a 'user error' and it does work this way and I've just not figured it out yet.

I've looked across the forums here and can't find any other thread addressing this, so forgive me if I'm asking a question that's already been posted.

Yes, you have to switch the options "Email issue creator" and "Email issue resource" to "Yes" in the Administration -> Notifications menu.

This will automatically add resources and users who have created issue as issue watchers and send them alert for any change to the issue.

Your users should untick all alerts (created, updated etc..) at the project level.

Thank you. I already had those two marked as 'yes' in the admin notifications menu, but I also had every user's email alert preferences completely checked for all options. (Something I'd done back when were were having scheduler problems - i.e. - scheduler wasn't installed and we couldn't figure out why no one was getting email alerts even though we'd successfully tested the SMTP! ;) )

In the Notifications menu, I noticed that it described the two functions you mentioned as "Send email automatically to issue creator (or 'issue resource') after issue creation". Does this mean that a 'yes' in these boxes also means that the creator or resource also gets informed of all other changes to the issue as well, such as new comments, status change, etc?

Correct, yes in these boxes will automatically alert the creator and resource about any changes to the issue.
