Notification problem or incorrect security scheme settings?

web-app

I have this problem with the email-alert/notification functionality in connection with Comments offered in Gemini.

Through the special Notification settings dialoge, every project member obviously has the option to set what notifications on issue events he/she is interested to receive via email. But is it possbible to control the sending of notifications based on the level of visibility chosen when, for instance creating a comment? What are the mechanisms in Gemini that controls the sending notifications?

I have setup a test project based on a few simple projects groups. There is one group for project internal members, one group with project external members (eg customer representatives), one group for all project members regardless of roles, and finally one group for project leaders. I have one external project member defined to receive notifications on any new comment in an issue. I have one internal project member and one project leader also set to receive email-alerts on comment creation. The project leader is a member of both the project leader group and of the project internal group. All three users are also members of the general project group, the one regardless of roles.

When I first create an issue in the role of the external project member, and then choose to comment it as a member of the project internal group OR as a member of the project leader group with the visibility set to Project Internal Members only, an email notification is STILL sent to the Project External Member. This means that internal comments within an issue are made impossible since the customer respresentative is able to read them via the email alerts, assuming he has chosen to be alerted on the creation of comments. This is clearly unwanted, since part of the commenting dialogue may be wanted to be kept internally.

Hence, the issue notification fails in connection with limiting level of visibility to a certain project group. This might have to do with my security scheme settings in gemini, so back to my question: What are the mechanisms in Gemini that controls the sending notifications?

Your setup seems fine.

Indeed, we do check for issue and comment visibility before sending the user an email alert.

Are you using the MailPlugin or the Gemini Scheduler for sending email alerts (Admin --> Notifications).  I suggest you try Gemini Scheduler.
