Ongoing errors upgrading from 2.0.5 to 2.2.x

We have been trying for several months to upgrade from 2.0.5 to 2.2.x, and the upgrade scripts do not seem to work.  I have tried doing an automatic upgrade and manual, and either way, I seem to be missing necessary stored procedures.  For example, when I try to view issues in a project, I get the following error:

Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.aspnet_CheckSchemaVersion'.

Actually, this seems to be the main issue.  Any thoughts?  I have updated the web.config with what I think is the correct connectionStrings setting, per other posts on similar topics.

Please make sure that the profile connection string is correct and that you have run installcommon.sql and installprofile.sql

I would swear that I had run those scripts already, but I ran them again and the error is gone.
