I have a general question about automating datetime values when certain fields are changed. I would advocate the use of triggers but I know this can also be done using application code.

Why when field values like Status is changed to Closed why is there not a column like ClosedDate that automatically gets set to the current datetime? I would do this for Resolution as well. What about logic that does something like setting the State Date to the current datetime when time is logged and the State Date hasn't been set yet? I would think that this type of automation of the system would greatly decrease the amount of work needed by whomever is using Gemini. What do you all think about this?
