How to create dynamic / custom fields

I think it's a very strong feature to let the customers add there own fields. But how do you manges the fields in the database? And how do you create reports against them?

- Can anyone point me in the right direction.

We store all custom field definitions in geminicustomfielddefinitions, link between project and cusotm field in geminicustomfieldusage and  the data in gemini_customfielddata.
