I just cannot get it running, no matter what!

web-app

We have just bought Gemini after testing it on a Dev machine of ours.

Now I am trying to install it on a Windows Server 2003 machine that hosts two sub-domains (the main www. one and one other).

A few problems:
a) When using the msi installer it insists in installing it within the subdomain, and I don't know what I can type into the 'alias' portion of the install box to make it install in the www. subdomain)
b) When manually installing the app, the instructions are woefully inadequate (copy the contents into a new virtual directory). It doesn't mention you have to change the document tab, doesn't mention what type of security settings to employ, doesn't mention anything else.
c) No matter if I installed using the msi or the manual method I am completly unable to get anything to come up other than the gemini.pdf file if I type in the path directly. (ie. the virtual directory is working fine, but nothing else seems to be)
d) On the other sub-domain we have a .Net web application running (at least I think it's .Net, might be just asp), and it's still working fine.

I have no idea whatsoever what to do. I have played with permissions and other such things to my hearts content, typed in default.aspx directly etc. and nothing works.

Occasionally I'll get an authentication window come up which is satisified with the window's Administrator's username and password, but the end result is still nothing after that.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Regards,

Simon

What are the exact errors you getting?

It seems to alternate between being a forbidden (401?) and a not found (404) error.

But it does seem odd to me that I can access the Gemini.pdf file in that directory without issue...

Is there some ASP thing I have to do?

I've tried reinstalling .NET 1.1 but it says it's already installed. Also, all my updates are, well, up to date.

Thanks for the reply.

OK, well I've got it working, no thanks to the terrible documentation for the installation.

It's as simple as Permitting ASP within the Web Services Extensions within IIS.

Don't laugh, it's completely not obvious to someone who would rather not be using IIS in the first place (bit of an Apache user). Really, have a look at your documentation guys and add in all those little steps like permissions, etc. that you just ASSUME that people know.

Also, have a bit more information on how to setup a user in the db. What rights are required etc. I'm guessing on the whole you've always just tested with sa? Not the best idea.

We just bought this product to do what it is supposed to do, we shouldn't have to know all the associated guff. We just want to track our issues.

Thanks, I think it'll lead to happier, healthier installs for all.

I'd have to agree with "spoco2's" comments - just registering my concern.

Cheers.
