Trouble Configuring One-Project Viewers

security

I have a couple users I am trying to setup who should only have limited access to a single project in our list of projects. They should have some limited write permissions, but they should be able to view everything in that one project.

Since these users are the exception, I've kept the project using the Default Security Scheme, but I put these users in a project group called MUTI Users. This project group got some permissions.

What's really troubling is that when I log in as these users, lots of columns on the Items page just don't show up. I've seen this before, but remember being equally baffled last time. What can cause such a thing.

Screenshots attached (whoa... can't attach more than one file... had to mush them together in one image). TIA.

I hope this isn't too off-topic, but I also had a problem a couple months ago where I noticed my non-admin users could delete items. I don't think I was ever able to figure out what permission that's linked to... how can I prevent users in the "Everyone (authenticated)" group from deleting any items, including their own, without removing any other permissions?

If not possible, please put this on the wishlist :) I, as an admin, don't even want to be able to delete items so that it can't happen accidentally.

TIA.

Ack, in re-reading my own post I just realized I forgot to mention that yes, I did check the missing columns clearly appear in the "Customize" menu for the Items table. Priority and severity are among the default columns clearly missing that I want.

Please make sure that the screens (Administration -> Screens) allow these users (project group) to view the fields.

Mark, thanks for the response, but I don't see any way to tie screens to users. Are you saying that I should be able to use a screen to control which users see which fields? Screens always seemed "global" to me - only controlling which screens are visible on a project, not to users.

Please see this image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/153894/temp4.png

Screens are tied to group(s) so the groups that these users belong to cannot see these fields because they are not selected.

Hi Mark. I cannot find what you're talking about. Do you think you could post instructions, a page number from the produce manual, a screenshot, or anything else helpful? I would really appreciate that.

Thanks, Patrick

ANSWER

For anyone else with the same problem:

It turns out it was right in front of me. Under the big checkbox and the big blue font for each one of the attributes (aka fields), there's also some very tiny print that says which users can see the field. If you click on that static-looking text it then lets you edit who sees the field if it's visible at all. It's not obvious, but it's definitely there. HTH.
