Missing icons cause Desktop to hang displaying issue list
[edit: changed title to reflect real problem, see my post below. Size of issue is not relevant]
I have a project with 89 issues open (several years of wishlist items imported from my old tracker). I tried to load up the Desktop, and it took a very long time before the list turned gray and listed the issues. But it never completed. The list remained disabled/grayed, the thermometer never got past one pixel. I waited for 10 minutes. The web browser on the same machine responds immediately (seconds). Also, though the list is filled with lines of issue info, the type, priority, severity, and status icons appear only for the first 11 issues in the list. Below that, those columns are empty. They are not really empty, they display in the browser. The user interface is not dead, I can expand the Desktop window vertically and additional issues show (still without those icons).
This may be what caused the problem in my other post http://support.countersoft.com/forums/thread/12495.aspx

Can you please send us the DebugView output? You will need to run DebugView and capture all events. |

Cannot attach these logs. Sorry, forum prohibits it. So here is a log from hitting the refresh button. I see a problem :-) 00000030 16.78170395 [5412] CounterSoft Gemini: Start RefreshRequest
00000031 16.78178406 [5412] CounterSoft Gemini: Start RefreshProject
00000032 16.78203964 [5412] CounterSoft Gemini: End RefreshProject At this point the thermometer is frozen, the display is grayed out, and only the first 8 issues have icons. I waited several minutes with no further activity. |

Why is it looking in the Visual Studio 2005 package area? I was not running VS2005 at the time, only Gemini Desktop. |

OK, I solved this one with the DebugView info and a bit of imagination. Turns out the list stops refreshing when it encounters an image that is not in C:\Program Files\CounterSoft\Gemini Visual Studio 2005 Package\Images. I had to add the standard Severoty_Major.gif image. Plus I have a few custom Status and Type (that use icons from the standard set on the Gemini server) and I had to add those image files to that folder as well. It was easy, right click on the icon image in the browser display, then save as... to that images folder. Now my project lists fill to completion. This was not a "long list" problem. It was a problem of the images not being in that folder. Why is it looking there instead of an images folder under Common? That would seem more logical. Do you have to have the VS2005 Add-In installed in order for Desktop to work at all? And I am amazed no one else has seen this since the missing Severity_Major icon image would be commonly used! Anyway, now you know about it... and maybe the next version can have ALL of the image icons there so even custom types etc. (that use icons from the Standard Gemini set at the server) will just work. |
