Grouping Projects

projects

Projects within Gemini can be grouped in order to facilitate better user experience and for assisting in quicker cross-project reporting and analysis.

There are three ways that projects can be grouped – Departmental, Business Unit, or by Client.

Departmental Project Organization

You may choose to organize project in a departmental fashion such a Development, Sales, Support, IT, etc.  Doing so ensures that different department projects can be segregated and managed in a more organizational centric manner. For example, consider the follow project organization and the projects within:

  • Development
    • Intranet
    • Dotcom
    • Project A
    • Project B
  • Support
    • Customer Help Desk
    • IT Support
  • Sales
    • Marketing
    • Lead Management

Business Unit Project Organization

Well defined business units or line-of-business areas that are self-contained can be used to organize projects. Usually little overlaps exist in such scenarios and hence organizing project by business unit may well ensure solid project partitioning. For example, consider the follow project organization and the projects within:

  • Unit A
    • Product A
    • Product B
    • Support
    • IT Hardware
  • Unit B
    • Product C
    • Product D
    • Support
    • IT Hardware

Client Project Organization

Where an organization provides products and services to other organizations, projects can be organized around the notion of Clients.  Given that each client and your engagement with them is discrete, then having projects organized in this manner will ensure confidentiality is maintained. For example, consider the follow project organization and the projects within:

  • Client A
    • Project  A
    • Project B
  • Client B
    • Project A
    • Project B
    • Project C
  • Client A
    • Project A
    • Project B
