Creating Projects

Project Templates have made the process of creating projects in Gemini very simple. The Template defines most of the metadata structure of the project and all of its data capture and workflow. What remains as tasks for the project administrator, when creating a project, is to choose a code, a name, define the group that the project will belong to, select the Template and Permission Set and choose some project options.

To create or maintain a project, navigate to the Customization section using the Customize link in the top right hand section of the page and select the Projects tab.

Project Groups - Labels

Gemini lets you group your projects any way you like and the system defines a system group called “All Projects”. You can group projects any way that you need to; by business unit, by department, by line of business or by role, it really is up to you. To create or maintain a project group click on the “Labels” sub tab. You will see the following screen:

Project Labels

To Add a new Label, click on the Add button. You will be prompted to provide:

  • Name – the descriptive name of this project group
  • Projects – a multi-select field where you can select the project(s) to which this Label should apply. You do not have to select projects at this stage because you can select the Label when creating/editing the project definition

Click Save to create the Label.

To maintain the Label value click in the appropriate field and use Gemini’s inline editing to easily and instantly change the field values. To change the project(s) associated with this Label click on the Edit icon edit icon and make your changes.

To delete a Label, click on the Delete deleteicon_thumbicon to the right of the screen. You will be warned about the number of projects that will now be unlabelled should you continue and allowed to abort or proceed.

Project Definitions

To create or maintain a project definition click on the “Projects” sub tab. You will see the following screen:

To Add a new Project, click on the Add button. You will be prompted to provide:

  • Description – a long description that is mainly for reporting purposes
  • Lead – a dropdown list of Gemini users – select the project lead

  • Permissions – the permission set to use for this project
  • Template – the Project Template on which this project should be based (processes, workflow etc.)
  • Component Assignment Mode – whether or not when selecting Components users can pick multiple Components (see Components)
  • Resource Assignment Mode - whether or not when selecting Resources for tasks, users can pick multiple Resources
  • Color – a color code for the project, useful for identifying tasks in the Visual Planner

Click Save to create the project.
